The history: This superb and imposing manor house with private chapel, belonged in 1645 to the Roque de Barros Rego family, nobleman from the Royal Palace that it had inherited of his father Afonso de Caminho. One of his grandparents, Fernao Anes do Rego, that lived at the time of D. João I, fought with his father in Aljubarrota. Being without any use for a long period, the house became a ruin. The present owner together with a prestigious architect gave new life to the building and the final result is outstanding. The respect of the original architecture together with the modern appliances and confort make this a distinctive Portugal holiday property to suit the highest demand. The building is classified of special interest by the IPPAR - Instituto Português do Património Arquitectónico (Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage) - committed to maintain, preserve, protect and improve the Portuguese architectural heritage. Location: The estate lies off a quiet lane, in an elevated position overlooking the Lima valley. Ponte de Lima which has an excellent golf course, various restaurants, night club, bars, shops, horse riding centre, natural park with lagoons and birdwatching, etc, is approximately a 7 minute drive away. Viana do Castelo, a lively fishing and ship-building port, famous for its winding streets and sandy dune-backed beaches, is about a 20 minute drive away. Within a 30 to 50 minute drive there are various interesting sites to visit such as Barcelos, Guimaraes, Ponte da Barca, Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal's National Park and the delightful World Heritage Site of Porto.
